In 1904, in the north of Peru, the Hacienda Agrícola de Chiclayo was founded in Chiclayo, a small settlement between the sea and the mountains known as the "city of friendship".
Here, a group of peasants joined together to trade their sugar, and with this purpose built, with great personal sacrifice, a small refinery. In 1922, the family of Peruvian landowners Piera de Castillo, whose head was Don Rolando, bought the farm, the refinery and the vast sugar cane plantation of the Gutiérrez family. While there was a lot of raw material, the technology was elementary. The lack of technical know-how meant that the sugar cane and all its potential could not be fully exploited. The workforce, coming from the inhabitants of the area around the estate, was also ill-prepared. In 1933 Don Rolando sent his eldest son Augustus to study chemical engineering at the University of Cambridge. In the summer of 1938 a ship destined for Peru left London, transporting the precious sugar cylinder machinery and a Scottish column for distillation. 1950 was an unforgettable year for the young Augusto Piera de Castillo: Ron Millonario was officially born. The rum was the result of hard work, but since few could afford it, it acquired the name "por los millonarios", in recognition of that exclusive club of individuals rich enough to buy the spirit and enjoy its unique charm.
Only in this corner of the world could a sugar cane with surprising qualities grow tall and austere, where the crop matures slowly, accumulating a precious sugary nectar which, worked with an ancient method, gives rise to a molasses of the highest quality, true essence of characteristic bouquet of aromas and aromas of the Ron Millonario.
