Leyrat produces Single Estate Cognac from a vineyard of 90 hectares particularly rich in limestone, located in a hilly area in the Fins Bois. The property is family owned and Francis Abécassis, helped by his daughter Elodie, strongly believes in the influence of Terroir in the production of great Cognacs.

WHAT ARE COGNAC SINGLE SUMMERS?

The production of Cognac is controlled for more than 90% by a group of large maison. In order to produce the required quantities, the maisons purchase wine, grapes and Cognac from a considerable number of producers scattered throughout the Cognac territory. The Single Estate Cognacs instead follow every aspect of the production. They take care of the vineyard, make wine, distill it and age it. Their Cognacs are therefore never the result of blends of different terroirs but rather pure expression of the territory from which they come.

THE LEYRAT STYLE

Leyrat Cognacs are elegant and complex, characterized by floral notes. The maison uses only lightly toasted barrels and ages all its Cognacs well beyond the minimum required by the disciplinary. They are also bottled without wood: an additive unfortunately used in many Cognacs. The boisè is produced by boiling wood chips in water until a syrup is obtained. Some manufacturers use this additive to make them look older than they really are.
