In the legend of the Lunar New Year calendar, a Great Race was held to cross a river and decide the order of the 12 zodiac animals. Despite its speed, the horse finished seventh. It didn't realize that the snake had hidden itself, coiled around its hoof, and as it was about to cross the finish line, the snake suddenly uncoiled. Amaro Camatti is a historic Genoese specialty, created in 1924 in Recco by Livorno-born chemist Umberto Briganti, who named his concoction after his wife's surname. Its original recipe, now guarded by the Bergamino family, remains, as per tradition, partly secret: after carefully selecting the raw materials, it undergoes an infusion and maceration process designed to suit the characteristics of each individual herb, flower, aromatic root, and tonic used.
