Long before it was possible to measure the alcohol by volume of a drink, the Royal Navy faced this problem: making sure that gunpowder remained flammable even if a barrel of gin broke during transport. In the days of cannonballs and muskets, in fact, wet gunpowder represented a death sentence in battle. The "Navy strength" label indicated the safe spirit to be transported on Navy ships and was affixed only to the barrels that passed the empirical test: after dipping a few grains of gunpowder in the gin they tried to set them on fire. The Navy measurement continued until 1890 and still today indicates a distillate with an alcohol content greater than 57%. PETER in THE NAVY maintains all the aromatic characteristics and balances the high alcohol content with the freshness of its botanicals.
