Description
The Constain family was the creator of Coloma Rum in 1959. Alberto Constain Medina became the owner of the “hacienda” built at the end of the 19th century in the village of Fusagasuga in the center of Colmbia. Initially they grow coffee, called Coloma, a few years later they produce a liqueur of the same name which becomes very popular throughout the country. Although it was a dream of him to be able to open a rum distillery, at the time it was not allowed under Colombian law.
In 2005 the law changes and distillation in private companies is allowed. The son decides to restart rum production with the help of two Colombian master blenders, Sandra Reatigui and Judith Ramirez. Coloma is produced from the distillation of molasses, rests for 8 years in oak barrels that previously contained bourbon and from 6 to 12 months it finishes its refinement in barrels used for the storage of the homonymous coffee liqueur.
