In 1904, in northern Peru, the Hacienda Agrícola de Chiclayo was founded in Chiclayo, a small settlement between the sea and the mountains known as the "city of friendship".

Here, a group of farmers came together to trade their sugar, and with this purpose they built, with great personal sacrifice, a small refinery. In 1922, the Peruvian landowning Piera de Castillo family, whose head was Don Rolando, bought the Gutiérrez family's farm, refinery, and vast sugarcane plantation. While there was a lot of raw material, the technology was elementary. The lack of technical know-how meant that sugarcane and all its potential could not be fully exploited. The workforce, drawn from the inhabitants of the area around the estate, was also poorly prepared. In 1933 Don Rolando sent his eldest son Augusto to study chemical engineering at Cambridge University. In the summer of 1938 a ship destined for Peru left London, carrying the precious sugar cylinder machinery and a Scottish column for distillation. 1950 was an unforgettable year for the young Augusto Piera de Castillo: Ron Millonario was officially born. Rum was the fruit of hard work, but because few could afford it, it acquired the name "por los millonarios", in recognition of that exclusive club of individuals wealthy enough to buy the spirit and enjoy its unique charm.

Only in this corner of the world could a sugar cane with surprising qualities grow tall and austere, where the harvest matures slowly, accumulating a precious sugary nectar which, processed with an ancient method, gives rise to a molasses of the highest quality, the true essence of characteristic bouquet of aromas and perfumes of Ron Millonario.
